ROMA Pictures #2

Day #3: A delicious gelatto that I came across! Mint gelatto with a ton of whipped cream and cute cone decorations. Needless to say, I wasn't too hungry for dinner...

Me at the Colosseum!!! I'm actually touching it!!!

The intricate basement of the Colosseum. There are about 60 "elevator" chambers designed to raise the gladiators through trap doors. Imagine all 60 trap doors opening at once to reveal 60 armored fighters ready to slaughter each other. The image is pretty striking, no?

Behind the modern (and random) cross are two white pillars that held the platform of the emperors' seats. Very impressive.

Me outside the Colosseum. I think I look like I'm attacking the camera.

The Roman Forum! Sadly, we didn't have time to have a tour of the whole thing, so we don't really know which ruins used to be what, but it was still really fun to walk through them.

The group inside the Italian Archaeological Park (which includes the Forum and the house of the emperors).

THE best flavor of gelatto EVER!!! NUTELLA!!! It was so incredible - cream gelatto with delicious chunks of Nutella inside and drizzled on top. SOOOO good!

The ceiling of the Pantheon.

This awesome lady at the sidewalk cafe we ate at. She had a whole pizza and pint of beer to herself and she was tearing through them like no other. She polished off half a melon for dessert.

Making my wish at the Trevi Fountain! I WILL return to Roma now! (Is it cheating that I already know that I'll be back there this summer?)

The Trevi Fountain.

Probably the most entertaining moment of the trip. Corey HAD to have a tangerine from this tree on the street so he jumpd on Tim's back (which as you can see didn't work very well). We finally got our tangerines, but sadly they were really sour and not tasty at all.
